LA SPORTIVA // ROCK CLIMBING
La Sportiva are constantly promoting Australian rock climbing and are big supporters of the local scene. rumblr. has had the pleasure of working with the team on multiple projects over the years, promoting their athletes and sharing stories from both rock climbing and trail running backgrounds.
Jake Bresnehan. The White Ladder.
One of the more famous climbs in the country, Attack Mode / White Ladder has seen a evolution over time.
Originally Rob LeBreton’s project, he climbed the route in 1994 “to the biner” calling the climb “Attack Mode” and in the process giving Australia its first grade 32 / 8B+ climbed by an Australian.
The route quickly became a test piece for the grade while Rob continued to try the remainder of the route, a short intense boulder problem that led to a big jug under the final roof.
While getting very close to sending the full route, unfortunately, Rob never climbed it, and it wasn’t until 10 years after Attack Modes first ascent, that the full climb was completed by Chris Webb Parsons, giving Australia its first 34 / 8c+ in 2004 - White Ladder.
But this wans’t the end of the line for this route. In 2010, a young Ben Cossey spied an extension to the climb, adding a final boulder problem above the original anchor, and taking the climb to its logical conclusion.
This remained a project until 2019 when Jake Bresnehan climbed the full route to the final anchor for the first time.
Jake fell off the final boulder after having climbed White Ladder 4 times, but feels the route is just now full value for the grade rather than being any harder…Time will tell!
